Mona's Top Five Tools to Stay Grounded Everyday
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s all too easy to feel overwhelmed, distracted, and just…unmoored. Finding little ways to stay grounded has been key for me—not just in business, but in life. Staying connected to myself helps me handle stress and feel more present for my family, friends, and work. Here are five simple tools I turn to whenever I need to center myself. I hope they help you feel a little more rooted in your own day-to-day.
A Journal: Your Personal Time Capsule
Journaling is one of my absolute essentials. There’s something magical about putting pen to paper—getting my thoughts out and just letting my mind breathe. Journaling isn’t about having perfect words or capturing major events; it’s a place to check in with yourself. When I take a few minutes to write, I can release any tension, worries, or ideas and feel lighter afterward. Plus, journaling helps me see patterns over time, and looking back on older entries reminds me of how far I’ve come. This little ritual can make such a difference in how grounded and intentional I feel day to day.
An Essential Oil Diffuser or Candle: Scents That Set the Mood
We often underestimate the power of scent, but for me, using essential oils or lighting a calming candle is an instant mood-setter. I choose lavender or eucalyptus when I’m feeling especially frazzled, as these scents work wonders to ease tension and create a peaceful environment. If I’m in need of a little energy boost, I reach for citrus oils like lemon or orange. Creating a calm, pleasant atmosphere in my home with just a few drops of oil helps me feel refreshed and focused—it’s like having a mini retreat at home. I love this simple reminder that even when life feels chaotic, I can set a peaceful tone with just a whiff.
Mindfulness Apps: Calm on Demand
Sometimes, my mind feels like it’s running a marathon. That’s when a good mindfulness app comes in handy. I’ve tried a few, but I keep coming back to Calm and the MYRetreat Apps. They offer quick, guided exercises to help slow my breathing, relax, and get back to the present moment, and they both have free versions. These apps make grounding yourself accessible anywhere, anytime—even if you only have a minute. (MYRetreat actually pairs chocolate with mindfulness to dramatically improve habit formation. It’s a must try!) Whether it’s listening to a short meditation before bed or a quick breathing exercise between meetings, it’s a great way to recharge and refocus, and a gentle reminder that a sense of calm is always available, no matter what’s going on.
A Great Pair of Walking Shoes: Connecting with Nature
Getting outside every day is essential for me. There’s something about fresh air and being surrounded by nature that helps me feel more connected to myself and the world around me. I make it a point to take a walk—even if it’s just around the block—every day, rain or shine. It’s a chance to disconnect from screens and reconnect with what really matters. A comfortable pair of walking shoes makes it easy to build this into my daily routine. On Cloudflow shoes are my go-to, but I recommend stopping by a running store to have your feet assessed so that you can find the right fit for you. The rhythm of walking, breathing in the air, feeling the ground beneath my feet—these little things remind me to slow down, ground myself, and appreciate the moment.
Body Care Products: Comfort in Your Pocket
Lastly, I always keep a few body care products on hand to help me stay grounded throughout the day. I recommend an essential oil roller blend (Nourish’s Power of She Blend is great), and I always have a Mona Moon Naturals lip balm with me at all times. A quick swipe of lip balm or a dab of essential oil on my wrists is a small ritual that helps me pause and check in with myself. These products aren’t just about feeling good physically; they’re about creating little moments of calm in the middle of a busy day.
Finding Your Own Grounding Routine
Staying grounded doesn’t have to be a huge commitment or an elaborate routine. It’s the small, intentional actions—journaling, breathing deeply, going for a walk—that help us feel centered. These tools have become part of my daily life, and I hope you find inspiration to create your own grounding rituals. After all, taking care of yourself is the first step in caring for everything else in your life. So light that candle, lace up those shoes, and take a moment for yourself today. You deserve it.
