Keep Your Hands Warm and Healed
The wind is kicking up and in true fall format, the temperature is all over the place. No matter what, I make sure to get my outdoor walks in, and I often find myself putting my hands in my pockets. I know it won’t be long before my gloves are with me at all times. I’m much more functional and comfy with warmer hands! How about you?
Warm, Moisturized Hands are Healthier Hands
1. No one really likes dry skin
Do you find yourself scratching your skin more in the cooler months? There’s a reason why. Cooler temperatures often come with lower humidity, which can cause the skin to become dry and cracked. Moisturizing helps to retain the skin's natural oils, preventing dryness, itching, and irritation.
2. Cold hands means poor circulation
If you have ever had difficulty moving your fingers (or toes!) when it’s colder out, there’s a reason why. It’s all about blood circulation. Cold temperatures can affect blood circulation because our blood vessels constrict , leading to numbness and stiffness in the fingers and toes. By keeping your hands warm, you help maintain proper blood flow, which is essential for overall hand health.
3. Nimble hands get more done
It’s not only important to keep blood circulating in your hands to keep them warm, but it keeps your fingers more nimble and agile. When our hands are cold, it’s much harder to do tasks that require fine motor skills, even simpler things like putting on our shoes, unlocking the car, holding our favorite drink, or getting dressed. Keeping hands warm helps maintain optimal hand function.
4. If we can prevent a skin condition, let’s do it
Cold and dry conditions can contribute to various skin conditions such as eczema. Moisturizing helps create a barrier that protects the skin from environmental elements and reduces the risk of skin issues.
