How to Elevate Your Body Care Routine This Spring
If you’re anything like us, you’ve neglected your skin under the layers to keep cozy this winter and with spring right around the corner it’s time to restore your glow.
But that glow will take some effort and an effective body care routine.
If you too are ready to focus on yourself, here are some tips for maintaining healthy skin that will keep you baby soft and radiant from head to toe.
Tips for Healthy Spring-Ready Skin
While there are many products and tools that can help achieve that glow, let’s focus on some basic, non-negotiables to keep in mind.
Hydration is Key!
We know you have heard thismany times, but whether you’re looking for hydrated skin on your face or body, it all begins with simply drinking enough water. There is no way around it! You might be mistaking dehydrated skin for dry skin. They might look and feel the same but are completely different issues. Dehydrated skin is due to a lack of water so grab that bottle and chug, chug, chug! If you’re wondering how much water you should be drinking then drinking half your body weight in ounces of water is a good rule of thumb!
Take Lukewarm Showers
There’s nothing like a hot shower after a long day, is there? But have you ever noticed your skin feeling extra itchy and dry after it? While scorching hot showers might be relaxing, they aren’t doing any favors for your skin. The hot water leaves our skin stripped of its naturally occurring oils leaving it dry. Those with extremely dry skin can develop eczema and even those without dry skin can be affected by the hot water. If you’d like your skin to thank you, switch to more lukewarm showers and see the difference it makes!
Exfoliate it Off
It’s time to get rid of that dry, ashy look and also allow all the products you apply to absorb more easily then you can’t go without a good exfoliation at least once a week. Exfoliating regularly buffs away the dry, dead skin cells and allows for new, healthy skin cells to form. Add this step after you wash your body. This ensures your skin is clean and prepped for exfoliation.
Remember to be gentle whether you use a product or tool on your skin. Wash away the product with lukewarm water. Again, avoid using hot water, especially after you’ve scrubbed your skin.
Protect Your Skin With SPF
We know, applying SPF is the hardest part of your body care routine but it is also the most important. If you’ve already incorporated it into your routine for your face then go ahead and extend it to your body. Those extra few minutes can save your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. Dermatologists recommend using sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 to cover all skin that is not covered by clothing. While it sounds silly and a complete waste of time and product, it protects your skin from uneven pigmentation, dark spots, melasma, and other skin condition flare-ups.
Go Clean With Your Body Care Routine
Switching to a clean body care routine has never been easier. Clean products are not only widely available but also trending because of how effective and safe they are! A clean body care routine means you are avoiding the ‘not-so-good’ ingredients while still getting the same benefits of an effective daily routine. Conventional products have irritants and fragrances which wreak havoc on your skin, leaving it dry, irritated, and sensitive. Read our previous blog post to find out more about the ingredients you should avoid in your body care.
So there you have it - simple ways to elevate your body care routine for that radiant glow this spring!
