The Importance of Body Movement and Easy Ways to Stay Active

Some of us shy away from exercise because it seems mentally and physically daunting, but it doesn’t need to involve burpees, 45-minutes of jumping jacks, or any routine called “Death by 200 Meters.”

There are simple activities we can incorporate into our everyday routines to keep our bodies active.

Body movement plays a key role in preventing disease, increasing our mood and energy levels, and maintaining good physical health.

Consider incorporating any of these simple activities into your daily routine for better health:

Walking

Walking is a low-impact exercise that can be done anywhere and requires no equipment. Consider audiobooks, podcasts, or catching up with an old friend to help pass the time! Aim for at least 30 minutes a day.

Stretching

Gardening

If weather permits, break out the hand trowel. Gardening involves bending, reaching, and lifting, which helps improve strength and flexibility. It’s also a great reason to get outside and connect with nature.

Cleaning

Two birds, one stone. Cleaning and body movement. Cleaning is a great way to get moving and burn calories. Activities like vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping all require physical exertion.
